A school girl revealed a man who had been harassing her sexually

Bishu (nick name), a form two girl residing in Arusha applied adolescence knowledge and skills to brake the silence and reveal the ongoing harrassment from a particular man.

‘Thanks to WEGS for providing us education and skills to manage risky situations. I realised the danger I was about to face immediately and future consequences if I would not take proper action’ Said Bishu in class while commenting on the adolescent education activities carried out by WEGS.

Bishu explained that a harassing man used to come to their home when her parents were away on job and knocked their gate consistently pleading to enter the house, sometimes using intimidating language to force her to open the gate. The man had been demanding for sexual relationship, promising to give her gifts. This malpractice went on for a long time causing a lot of disturbance to her, however, she was undecided and did not disclose it her parents. She told her friends in and out of school who actually didn’t advise her appropriately.

Bishu associated her experience with the message from the animation video titled ‘’Ndoto zangu’’ made by WEGS to disseminate adolescent education, hence convinced to inform her mother to overcome the danger.

The news saddened the mother but the transparence of the daughter calmed her knowing that the girl shall keep reporting such malpractices and proper measures would be taken to safeguard her.

The mother commended her for sharing the incident and promised to work on it. The following day they set a trap, the mother came back home earlier and managed to catch the man and warned him. From that day the man never came to that house again.
