CAMPAIGN TO END
VIOLENCE
AGAINST CHILDREN (CEVAC)

The aim of the project is to prevent and combat the incidences of child abuse by improving the attention and accountability of stakeholders on the matter.

This project shall strive to guide actions of parents and authorities involved in prosecuting the child abuse incidences to be supportive enough to protect the children’s rights. Other stakeholders with potential role in fostering children’s safety shall be engaged in the movement to attain the objectives.

Overall objective
Improved welfare and protection of child through awareness creation and improved stakeholders’ engagement in reporting and managing sexual violence incidences.
Specific Objectives
  1. To increase awareness on children sexual violence to children, parents, school teachers, media and grassroots authorities in the project areas by 2025
  2. To provide advisory support (legal and psychological) to 200 families of children survived sexual violence throughout the project period in the project areas to improve reporting of child abuse incidences
  3. To improve Stakeholders’ cooperation on children issues in the project areas police, CSOs and media.
Expected outcomes
  1. Increase of awareness of sexual violence against children in the society and management procedures.
  2. Proactive actions taken by communities to safeguard children against sexual violence
  3. Parents are confident and willing to discuss and report the incidences of sexual violence against children
  4. Improved efficiency on child abuse management
  5. Coalition on child safeguarding is established
 
Promoting the campaign to end violence against children comprises three components which are:
  • awareness and sensitization of stakeholders on child abuse
  • advisory support to survivors of sexual violence and their parents/relatives
  • networking on children issues
Awareness creation and sensitization of stakeholders on child abuse

Various activities shall be implemented in Arusha Urban District targeting children, parents, teachers, officials involved in prosecution. Children shall be alerted on signs and acts sexual violence and insisted to resist and report. The other groups shall be sensitized to fulfill their roles responsibly to ensure child protection which is a basic right for children. The campaign activities will be aligned to the most popular events which attract attention of children and women especially celebration of the African child day 16th June, the 16 days of activism against gender based violence 25th Nov – 10th December, the International women’s day on 8th March. All activities will focus on awareness about children sexual violence, management procedures and sensitization of stakeholders on children safeguarding responsibilities.

Advisory support to survivors of sexual violence and their parents/relatives

Proper management of the reported incidences contributes greatly to the project goal. Survivors of sexual abuse together with their parents/relatives need counselling to encourage them to pursue legal procedures for justice. They shall be enlightened on legal provisions and system for them to make the necessary preparations towards the course. Also constant contacts with actors in the prosecution system particularly police and public prosecutor officials shall be made by our staff to enquire feedback and progress of the cases.

Networking on children issues

Networking on the children’s rights and related issues with other agencies shall be exercised to tap their potentials into the movement. The agencies include media, police gender desk, activists, lawyers and legal aid organisations; these are expected to strengthen efforts in advocating for children’s rights. We shall also work closely with the government administrative structures to gather current information on child abuse in the society periodically and update public during the campaign to illustrate the situation of the problem. In addition district forum/coalition for children’s rights shall be established.
