What we do

Child safeguarding

A child is anyone under 18 years old, the age that they are not matured enough to make independent decisions. They are easily mistreated, manipulated and deceived for the motives of others due to lack of awareness on their rights and guidance. According to the World Health Organization statistics released in 2022, 75% of children aged 2-4 years regularly suffer abuse. Children are generally voiceless as they have no space in decision bodies where their matters are being determined. Yet, they are constantly accessing destructive information through technology due to lack of supervision. Parents and caregivers are increasingly becoming less responsible in providing effective care, support and safe environment that promotes children welfare, overall growth and development. Worse more, the reported incidences of child abuse are not managed properly due to ignorance of legal procedures, ineffective accountability of duty bearers and systemic challenges.

At WEGS we believe that it is everyone’s responsibility to safeguard children.

Our CSG program aims to ensure protection of children, prevention of abuse and response to incidences. In this program we have three objectives: to promote stakeholders’ accountability and responsibility on child care; to empower children on safety practices, to advocate for the rights of children. To attain these objectives, we implement various activities including awareness creation, campaign, dialogue, education and skills training.
